The Church of Saints James and Christopher is the most imposing monument on the island of Bisentina. It was commissioned by the Farnese family, who wanted to make it the family mausoleum. The new church was built on the site of a chapel where the remains of various personalities of the time were kept. The interior has a single hall with a Latin cross plan, in the centre stands an octagonal dome surmounted by a lantern. The church houses the marble sarcophagus of Ranuccio Farnese the Elder, attributed to the sculptor Isaia di Pisa. - 407
