Andrew Lawler, author of the article "City of the Death", tells his journey to Saqqara, the amazement at the sight of the vast necropolis that emerges in the shadow of Giza and of the Valley of the Kings. It is difficult to imagine today that Saqqara, the oldest cemetery in Egypt, probably the most elaborate and extensive burial place in the world, was built to impress even under the ground.
The beautiful images of Araldo De Luca, on the cover and inside the publication, show the richness of the tombs of Saqqara, from the wooden statues to bronze statues, from the painted parietal sculptures to sarcophagi of the Egyptian noble class, from interiors still being excavated at furnishings recovered.
