Sfinge at Amenemhat III

The ruler is depicted with the body of a lion in the traditional sphinx pose and the human head framed by a long, thick mane from which leonine ears emerge. On the forehead is the uraeus, the symbol of kingship; on the statue are hieroglyphics with the various titles of the rulers who usurped the statue: titling of Ramesses II.
