Tutankhamun's sarcophagus and the decoration of the burial chamber
In the foreground is the quartzite sarcophagus containing the first of the pharaoh's three anthropoid sarcophagi, made of gilded wood. In the background the decoration of the north wall: on the right Tutankhamun's successor, Ay, dressed in a leopard skin and the Khepresh, performs the ritual of the opening of the mouth on the body of the king represented as an Osiris; in the centre Tutankhamun, dressed in a wig, diadem, large usekh necklace and white skirt, is in the presence of the sky goddess Nut who welcomes him into the Duat; on the left the king, followed by his ka, embraces the god Osiris.
