Detail of one of the statuary groups in the Inner Chamber: the group represents Khaemhat and his wife Teye and is carved directly into the limestone in which the entire tomb is carved. Khaemhat's face is heavily damaged and, like the rest of the body, appears to be covered in a black patina (the burial was desecrated in ancient times and the patina is due to fumes from cooking fires from the period when the tomb was used as a dwelling). Almost half of the statue's face is missing, there is a wig on its head and its body has a mummiform appearance.
