Detail. The king is welcomed into the otherworldly world by the goddess Hathor and Anubis, the jackal-headed embalming god. The pharaoh wears the khat on his head, a headdress made of a cloth, usually white or yellow, gathered behind the nape of the neck in a braid. A funerary connotation of the khat is very likely due to its frequent appearance as the headdress of the ka of the ruler and of the goddesses assigned to protect the deceased king. Above the king's head, on the right, are the hieroglyphics that form his coronation name: Nebkhaperura 'the lord of Ra's rays'.
