A decorative panel that adorned the underground flats (also called 'blue chambers') of the Djose Step Pyramid at Saqqara. Consisting of blue faience tiles interlocked on the limestone wall, it represents a mat of woven and painted reeds with a series of twelve 'djed' pillars of decreasing size from the centre towards the ends. The purpose of this type of decoration was to ensure greater durability for otherwise extremely perishable elements.
