The goddess Taweret was the protector of pregnant women and childbirth. She is depicted in the form of a hippopotamus, upright, with pendulous breasts and a prominent belly. The figure rests its front paws on two hieroglyphs 's3', indicating 'protection'. The paws are lion-shaped and the tail is that of a crocodile. On the head is a tripartite wig and a low modus.
